The list of different types of engineering career is extensive, but here are some examples of the types of positions you could find yourself in:

• Aerospace/aeronautical engineering
  • To do with the research design and development of aircraft and sometimes space exploration

  • Using mechanics, hydraulics and geotechnics to develop construction plans as well as statistical analysis
• Computer engineering
  • Merging electrical engineering and computer science to design and prototype computer hardware and software
  • Understanding how computers operate at a physical level and working to produce new products and systems
• Electrical or electronics engineering
  • Studying large scale and small scale productions of electrical power
  • Understanding how electrical systems are set up and working on the advancement of power production
• Mechanical engineering
  • Designing, manufacturing and maintaining mechanical systems
  • Working in such fields as artificial intelligence and and sustainable energy to come up with new ideas and designs

  • Management-focussed engineering to bring together projects and jobs with teams of engineers
